Firefighters Knockdown Early Morning Fire

On Saturday November 27, 2010 at 2:43 am (10) Companies of Charlotte Firefighters, (1) Heavy Rescue Company, (3) Battalion Chiefs, (2) Deputy Chiefs and (5) Fire Investigators responded to a report of a house fire at 413 Mammoth Oak Drive. The original call for service was requested for a fire alarm activation. The two-company response was increased to a full working fire assignment after reports of smoke in the vicinity of the fire alarm activation.
Firefighters from nearby station 19 arrived a short time afterwards at 2:49 am and reported heavy smoke coming from a large 3-story home. Firefighters engaged in a complex firefight exacerbated by the extraordinary construction of the home, size, and void spaces. Teams of firefighters conducted a hasty search of the home followed by an exhaustive search; no one was found. Firefighters worked cohesively by cutting holes in the roof to allow smoke; heat and super-heated gases to escape the structure while other firefighters deployed hose lines to knockdown the fire.
Forty-six (46) Firefighters were summoned to bring this fire under control in nearly two hours, but not before the fire caused an estimated $500,000 in damage. The residents of the home were not at home at the time of the incident and there were no injuries associated with this incident. Charlotte Fire Investigators have determined this fire was intentionally set and are asking anyone with information pertaining to this fire to call Crime Stoppers at 704.334.1600. Information that leads to an arrest and/or conviction may be eligible for a reward.
